About Us

Welcome to Johnston Club Lambs! We hope you’ll take a look around, and get to know our genetics and our program. Raising club lambs (and everything else that comes with it) has definitely become a family affair for us.

Gary and Katrina grew up showing livestock and met in high school at the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show in 1985. Years later, the boys—Clancy and Caleb—were gifted a lamb for Easter from their grandma. That speckle ewe named Dolly sparked their interest in raising sheep. The boys started showing lambs in 4-H and FFA, slowly growing their flock to about 20 ewes.

Even though Gary was a cattle guy himself, he could see how much Katrina and the boys enjoyed the sheep. As a 20th wedding anniversary gift in 2012, Gary bought Katrina Big Bird at the Midwest Stud Ram Sale. (Gary just might be a sheep guy after all.) Then in 2013, at the same sale, we purchased Mountain Man with Fisher Club Lambs, who proved to be a game changer for us. His influence is still seen in our flock.

A pivotal decision for our program was taking advice from fellow breeder and friend, Bud Beatty, to focus on the quality of our ewe base. We believe it does not matter how many high-powered bucks you buy; you need a good set of females at home to make it work. We concentrated on genetics and studied bloodlines to create predictability. We began purchasing ewes from other programs across the country and kept the top end of our ewe lambs. In three years, we grew from the flock of 20 to more than 300 ewes. (Not recommended) Today, our blackface flock is primarily influenced by Middlesworth, Hindman, and Johnson genetics. Our Dorset flock stems from Fisher, Stardust and Taylor genetics.

We strive for functionality in our sheep. Trends will come and go, but we will always work to breed sheep we like. We want them to be built right, balanced, exotic made, and get out and move. We don’t compromise on feet and legs. We insist that our females be great mommas, good milkers, and look more like a model than a bodybuilder.

Sheep are pictured in their working clothes—no sheared chests or edited pictures—so what you see is what you get. We know not everyone can get to the farm to visit in person, so we want our photos to be an accurate depiction of the animals. We also have a satisfaction guarantee. Please contact us with any questions. We’re here to help in any way and are only a phone call away. We want our customers to be successful. Thanks for letting us be a part of your livestock journey!
